The legal minimum age to use tanning equipment in the UK is 18, therefore at the Tanning Salon in Pulborough no one under the age of 18 is allowed to enter our tanning rooms or use our UV tanning equipment. If we think you are under the age of 18, we will ask for proof of your age before we allow access.

As the tanning process is different from person to person, it really depends on the type of skin you have. However, if you use our tanning beds on a regular basis and within the recommended safety tanning guidelines, you will be able to use our tanning equipment to both see results, and will prevent your tan from fading. We recommend that you allow a minimum of 24 hours between tanning sessions, and 48 hours or more if you have a fair skin type. Tans should be built up gradually, allowing the skin time to settle between tanning sessions, so it’s not recommended to complete more that one tanning session on any single day.

Our tanning sessions start at 4 minutes and go up to 15 minutes maximum for any single tanning session. As it’s best to build your tan slowly you should start by taking 2 or 3 short sessions weekly and as your tan builds slowly increase the time you spean in our state-of-the-art tanning equipment.

If you have already built up a base tan or you have a darker skin type you can start with 6 minute sessions, 2 or 3 times a week, and then build on that. Regardless of that, the amount of time spent within a sunbed should vary according to your own skin type. and should always comply with the safety guidelines of tanning which are available in store.

There are 4 basic skin types; very fair (type 1), fair (type 2), brownish-white (type 3), and dark (type 4). Before using a sunbed, you should be aware of your skin type. So, it’s strongly recommended to ask your dermatologist, or one of our tanning professionals for advice, and then complete a skin analysis form to determine your skin type. Once done, this will enable you to know your skin’s tanning ability and how you should use a sunbed wisely based on your skin type.

Your sunbed tan will last about 2 – 4 weeks from the date of your last tanning session. This is because your skin naturally replaces the outer layer of cells, the ones with a tan, with fresh new ones every 28 days, or so.

The easiest way to keep your tan is to keep your skin healthy and moisturised. Well moisturised skin not only helps you to tan quicker, it also helps to maintain your tan for longer. You should also moisturise after every tanning session, because the skin continues to produce melanin for up to 12 hours after your tanning session has ended, so keeping the skin moisturised during that time is essential.

At The Tanning Salon in Pulborough, we stock some of the best sunbed creams and moisturisers. These are specially formulated to intensify your tan, hydrate your skin, repair any skin damage caused by dryness, and prevent your skin from exfoliation.  Thus, keep your tan looking great for longer.

Eye protection is a must while using our tanning facility. The use of tanning goggles is not only a prerequisite for eye safety when using a sunbed, but it is also a legal requirement. If you do not use tanning goggles specifically designed for the intense UV that’s generated in a tanning bed you may suffer from temporary or permanent sight loss, or have to endure other problems like conjunctivitis or cataracts. If you don’t already own suitable tanning goggles we carry a range of specially designed ones for sunbed use that have been approved by the regulatory authority.

For your comfort we recommend that you remove your contact lenses when using our sunbeds. This is because the heat and dry air of our tanning equipment may cause eye dryness and discomfort.

We recommend that you do not use any kind tanning equipment whilst pregnant.

Tattoo’s can be damaged by UV rays which cause damage to the ink that’s used. So, if you have a new tattoo you should wait at least one month (preferably two) for your tattoo to heal completely before going on a sunbed or using tanning equipment. After your tattoo has healed, we recommend that you use a sun block, a special cream or cover your tattoo with clothing or a bandage. You should always make sure that your tattoo is protected by the UV rays which cause damage to the ink.

When exposed to UV rays, especially strong ones your hair can be damaged and become dry. If your hair is dyed, the colour can also fade. So, it’s important to properly protect your hair during your tanning sessions. To protect your hair you can wear a cap or wrap a towel over your head and tuck all of your hair inside.

Absolutely. At the Tanning Salon in Pulborough we utilise disinfectant sprays and sunbed sanitisers to ensure that the sunbed surface and private rooms are fully sanitized between clients. We even provide our customers with extra disinfectant sprays so you can use them to spray all over the sunbed surface and then wipe it off with a tissue or towel, should you desire.
